Why Alpe d'Huzes

Why I am participating is the first question the system asks me...
That seems like an easy question for the system, but ultimately it isn't. The reason I am participating is probably, just like for many other participants, my experiences with the disease of cancer.
In my case, that started 3 years ago in 2023 when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. 3 years later, the cancer is gone after a tough course of treatment involving chemo, radiation, and surgery, but the consequences of this disease and the treatments are still present.
My wife, Marjan, of whom I am incredibly proud, wants to set a goal for herself as a challenge and also raise awareness and funds for research for the KWF (Dutch Cancer Society). Research that is so important to make treatments better, more efficient, and with fewer after-effects.
Together with her, I have made the journey through the time of cancer, and together with her, I am now going to cycle up that mountain. Cycling, which for me has been a distraction from the disease over the past few years, which has helped me to be there for her as much as possible. Cycling, which has now also become my hobby. It doesn't get any better than this: cycling together, in the mountains, up the mountain for a good cause.
I hope the system considers this a good answer...
If not, the architecture of the system will need to be adjusted.
